World Ranking Points Now For World Cup Of Golf – Changes Also To FedEx Cup Play-Offs.

This year’s World Cup of Golf in Melbourne, Australia will be one of the big benefactors of two major changes to the Official World Ranking System.

At its recent meeting at The Open Championship, the Governing Board of the Official World Golf Ranking approved the following adjustments to the Ranking System.

1. For the series of four Final events on the 2013 hybrid Web.com – PGA TOUR, the first three events will receive a minimum of 16 first place OWGR points with the final event, the Web.com Tour Championship, retaining its status as the “flagship” event at a minimum of 20 first place points.

2. With the 2013 World Cup event now being based on a similar system and eligibility and format to that which will be utilized when Golf makes its Olympic debut in 2016, the event will be primarily an individual stroke play competition as well as retaining its traditional team component. In view of this the Board agreed that OWGR Ranking points should be awarded to the event in a similar way to the World Golf Championships.
