Marc Warren Draws On Fatherhood As He Targets BMW PGA Success

Marc Warren celebrated his first tournament with young son, Archie present declaring fatherhood will make him a better golfer.

Warren dropped at the first but regrouped in the miserable cold and wet conditions to birdie three of his next seven holes on route to a 70 for a five under par tally.Marc Warren may be rugged-up against the cold and rain but he's warming to fatherhood. (Photo - Fran Caffrey/www.golffile.ie)

It left the Scot in a group tied in second place and just one shot behind Italy’s Francesco Molinari who heads the event on six under par.

Warren and his wife, Laura drove down from Glasgow last week with their two-month old child, and the Glasgow golfer could not be more happy as he looks to bury any lingering demons from last year’s Scottish Open meltdown.

As well, Warren is still to bounce back from throwing away victory in last month’s Spanish Open when leading by two shots with a round to play but then shooting a 76 to miss the three-man play-off by a shot.

He said:   “Being a father certainly reminds you that there is more important things than golf.

“After what happened in the Spanish Open I was really disappointed but when I went back to the hotel room I was straight on to Skype and it was forgotten about.

“So being a parent definitely changes you as a person, and hopefully for the better.

“Even last night after a good round, it still helps.  I would usually go back and think about it, critique your round and what you could have done better, but seeing Archie and Laura, it totally changes what you think.”

But while young Archie is sleeping soundly at present, Warren said there’s been no change in his pre and post tournament time on the range.

He said:  “I haven’t noticed any change in the practice scheme a lot.

“Archie was born just before the Spanish Open and I never touched a club for a couple of weeks, but since then I’ve done a lot of work, I was down last Tuesday to see Pete Cowen and to see Callaway, so we’ve been down for a week.”

Former Wentworth winner and fellow Scot, Scott Drummond is also through to the weekend despite shooting a 75 for a one over par tally.
