Christmas Meeting Of The Willoughby Laurels Social Golf Club.

It began in March 1979 when ‘The Four Founding Fathers’ managed to find their way south of Sydney to rural Bowral for a weekend of fun, frivolity and much drinking.

Somehow or another the four aslo found their way to ‘Royal’ Bowral Golf Club for a game of golf.

The rest, as they say, is history for now 33 years later the Willoughby Laurels Social Golf Club continues to flourish with competition held each month at golf courses in and around Sydney area.

The highlight each year is the Laurels Masters where the coveted green jacket is fitted to the winner  .. no matter the jacket was spotted in a local Vinnies store.

However last Sunday it was the occasion of the annual Christmas meeting with 18 members and guests competing for a first time on the Lynwood Golf Club course to th west of Sydney.

It was also the deciding tournament for the respective A, B and C Grade Championship.

And not for a first time in all the years I have been a member of the Laurels there was four lefties in the our group – Macca, Steve Clarke, Kevin Warner and myself.

Despite the initial very hot and then later very windy conditions it was Craig Glover who won the prestigious Laurels Trophy with 38 stableford points from legendary Sydney barrister, Mark Peoples taking out the Foundation Trophy.

Long-time club secretary, Steve McGuire was thrilled to capture the C Grade Championship just weeks after a serious health scare so well down to Macca (my brother).

Hereunder is a few photographs from the outing – click to enlarge.
