Peter Lawrie – I’m The Gingerbread Man.

Ireland’s Peter Lawrie has labelled himself the ‘Gingerbread Man’ heading into this week’s UBS Hong Kong Open.

The affable Dubliner is contesting his eight Hong Kong Open after making his debut in 2002 and in a year that was made more memorable when he was awarded a stylish Omega wrist watch for his first-ever Tour hole-in-one.

However Lawrie in the Chinese Special Administrative District this year lying 60th on the Race to Dubai and right on the cut off mark for inclusion into next week’s season-ending Dubai World Championship.

Ireland’s Peter Lawrie is the European Tour’s gingerbread man this week at the UBS Hong Kong Open.

It is for this reason he’s calling himself the ‘Gingerbread Man’.

“I’m the one everyone is after this week so that’s why I’m the Gingerbread Man,” he smiled.

“But seriously I finished 58th on the Race to Dubai last year so it would be nice to get the chance to qualify and improve on that.”

Lawrie’s best finish in Hong Kong was seventh in 2009 when he posted four rounds in the 60s including day one and day three scores of 66.

And with a fortnight of competition remaining all nine Irish competing on the European Tour, including Damien McGrane (108th), are assured of retaining their tour cards for 2013.
