Rory McIlroy Accepts The Responsibility Of Being World No. 1.

In any chosen profession, whether it is business or sport, there comes a responsibility as the leader in your field.

Rory McIlroy as the current World No. 1 is no exception.

McIlroy went to World No. 1 in capturing the Honda Classic in March and while Luke Donald regained the crown three weeks later, McIlroy to the game’s best golfer just prior to the Masters and held his lofty position ever since.

One of the most endearing photos of Rory McIlroy and admitting he has a responsibility to the sports world as World No. 1.

The Northern Irishman was asked on the eve on the Turkish Airlines World Golf Final what he saw as his main responsibility.

“I wouldn’t say that I am carrying the game on my shoulders or anything like that but I see a responsibility to be respectful, be humble and be a good role model,” said Mcllroy.

“I accept I am in a position where there are a lot of people in the world who look up to people like me so that is something I am conscious about and I try to do that in the best possible way.”

And as World No.1 McIlroy accepts to he has obligation to take the game around the world, even though he has been a global player ever since turning professional in September 2007.

“The game of golf is growing all the time and while I accept that, it’s really the way the game is going at present.

“We’ve seen how golf has taken off in Asia and it’s spreading to so many more countries.

“We are here this week in Turkey and golf is also growing in India and Russia, and in four years time golf will be on the Olympic Games stage.

“So the game of golf is growing all the time and, of course, I want to feel part of that growth but I think I will play as big a role in that regard compared to how much the game if going forward around the globe.”
