Martin Kaymer & Craig Connolly Timely Reunited.

Martin Kaymer and Glaswegian-born caddy, Craig Connolly are once again an item.

A marked downturn in form of the German led to him phoning Connolly and with the pair back together for this week’s WGC – Bridgestone Invitational at the Firestone Country Club course in Akron, Ohio.

And Kaymer’s decision to reinstate the Scot is very time coming just a week before the second anniversary before the pair walked to victory in the 2010 U.DS. PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.

“Christian and I worked 14 or 15 months together and we had one really big success in winning a World Golf Championship event in Shanghai,” said Kaymer.

“But I felt it was time for a change and I asked Craig if he would like to caddy for me again because he just knows my game so well.

“We had four great wins in 2010 and I found with Christian we were both so alike whereas Craig is a very bubbly sort of person.

“He’s always fun on the golf course and there were plenty of times where he would say things to me that helped in tough situations.

“It’s not that I haven’t been having fun and it’s just that Craig is very outgoing and fun to have on the bag when competing.”

Kaymer will need big finishes in this week’s WGC – Bridgestone Invitational and next week’s PGA Championship to secure his place in Jose Maria Olazabal’s side.

And if he should drop outside the top-10 on the qualifying table Kaymer revealed he will not contest the final qualifying event, the August 23rd commencing Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles.

He said:  “I have these two weeks in the States to cement my place and if I still borderline I won’t be playing Gleneagles.

“So it’s these two weeks or nothing.”
