Adam Scott Set To End 19-Year Australia Winless Drought In Open Championship.

Adam Scott is just one round away from ending a 19-year Australian winless drought in the Open Championship.

Scott played a near flawless third round to storm four shots clear of his rivals with a day three two under par 68 for an 11-under par tally.

“He’s going to be the guy who’s going to sleep on the lead tonight,” McDowell said lying in a share of second place four shots back on seven under par.

“He’s going to be the guy with all the pressure.”

But the laid-back Aussie, who spends a lot of his Australian summer surfboard riding, wasn’t taking the bait.

“I don’t have a problem sleeping,” said Scott.

“You can ask anyone who knows me that I can put in some hours.”

Scott hasn’t shown the slightest hint of restlessness or nerves as he stalks down a major that his sweet swing and temperament have suggested is long overdue.

“I’m really excited for what tomorrow holds,” he said.

“No matter what the result, it’s going to be an incredible experience for me. And I truly believe I can go out and play a great round of golf, no matter what the conditions. And like I said, if I do that, then I think that makes it pretty hard for them to catch me.”

But while Scott said he’ll have no trouble sleeping one thing is certain, the rest of the country will be awake into the wee hours of Monday morning and looking to see an Australian lift the Claret Jug for only a 10th occasion.

Two of those will be legendary Peter Thomson, a five-time former Open winner, and Kel Nagle, winner of the Centenary Open in 1960.

Nagle is the oldest living Major Champion.
