Peter Lawrie Heads Irish Trio Looking To Qualify For Next Month’s Open Championship.

Peter Lawrie heads three Irish players who will tee-up in Monday’s 36-hole Open Championship qualifier at Sunningdale in Surrey, England.

Joining Lawrie will be triple Ryder Cup winning star, Paul McGinley and Ballyclare’s Gareth Maybin.

After contesting his first U.S. Open last week, Lawrie will be hoping to end a poor run of having failed to qualify at Sunningdale over four of the past five years.

Lawrie has competed in just one Open Championship and that was in missing the cut in 2005 at St. Andrews.

McGinley also has missed out on qualifying the past two years while Maybin missed qualifying last year and twelve months after his only Open Championship in 2010 when he missed the cut at St. Andrews.

Among the 96 players looking to secure one of 10 places into golf’s oldest Major is victorious Ryder Cup captain, Colin Montgomerie.
