The St. Andrews Links Trust is charged with managing seven golf courses in St. Andrews but it was not until this week I could finally lay claim to having played all seven – Old, New, Jubilee, Eden, Balgrove, Castle and now the Strathtyrum.
Despite the chilly conditions, Tour Miss and myself enjoyed what turned out to be a sunny and cloudless afternoon playing a round of golf on the Strathtyrum.
The course was laid out in 1993 and of the six courses located in the St. Andrews township itself, the Strathtyrum is the most westerly and runs for much of its layout close to the main road linking St. Andrews to Guardbridge and beyond.
The Strathtyrum measures 5,620 yards off the back tees and plays to a par 69.
And while that may seem a relatively easier test than it’s near neighbours (Eden, Old, New and Jubilee courses) on this particular day with the wind blowing hard, it proved quite a challenge.
Hereunder is a selection of snaps from the afternoon.
