The 31-year old with the movie star looks has had eight trips to the Tour School but has still banked more than a £1m in his six years on the Tour

“It was a very steady round without any bogeys which is always nice so I’m now looking forward to the final round,” he said.

“I may not have won on the main Tour but I’ve won twice on the Challenge Tour and I’ve had three Euro Pro Tour wins so hopefully that will put me in good stead for tomorrow.”

Australia’s Brett Rumford (68) and Italy’s Lorenzo Gagli (69) share second place at 12-under par and one clear of three others including Ryder Cup winning hero Francesco Molinari (71).

World No. 1 Luke Donald again struggled and for the second day in a row bogeying his 16th and final holes in a round of 70 to be eight under par and six shots behind Slattery.
