Tiger Turns Down Gleneagles Invitation

Tiger Woods has turned down an invitation to compete in next week’s Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles.

Monty jumped at the chance to invite Woods to compete in the Scottish event knowing the uncertainity of the 14-time Major’s winning schedule over coming months.

At this stage, Woods’ next event is on August 31st when he appears in Notah Begay’s Foundation Day.

But his next scheduled tournament is not to the November 10th starting Australian Open in Sydney.

However despite Monty’s good intention, Woods has been in contact with Gleneagles organisers saying he will be unavailable.

“I spoke with Colin and his management team and Tiger unfortunately can’t come,” said Tournament Director, Brian Marchbank.

Woods has slipped to No. 33 in the world after missing the cut in last week’s U.S. PGA Championship and there is every likelihood if he doesn’t play in a world ranking counting event till the Australian Open that he could be easily outside the top-50.

The Johnnie Walker Championship would have offered a great opportunity for Woods to claw back some of those world ranking points against a top field.

It also would have been a super opportunity for Woods to familiarise himself with the PGA Centenary Course that hosts the 2014 Ryder Cup.
