Scott Says Williams Remarks ‘Blown Out Of Proportion’.

Despite continued criticism of Steve Williams, Adam Scott says the New Zealand born caddy’s comments post the Australian’s WGC – Bridgestone Invitational success have been ‘blown out of proportion’.

Williams collected his 145th worldwide caddying success with Scott but ignited the obvious distaste in being sacked by Tiger Woods saying victory in Akron was the ‘sweetest’ of his career.

While Williams indicated his comments were a little over the top, World No. 1 Luke Donald is the latest to single out Williams for criticism.

“Stevie was given the opportunity to talk and he had the right to say what he wanted to say,” said Donald ahead of this week’s U.S. PGA Championship.

“The only disappointing thing that I found personally from it was there was no talk of how pleased he was about Adam winning.

“It was a little bit deflected away from Adam winning, and obviously the caddie does play an important role, but I think if he had mentioned something about Adam, this wouldn’t have been an issue.”

However the new World No. 9 ranked Scott said the whole saga ‘has been blown out of all proportion’.

“I’ve never won a golf tournament where my caddy has had more attention than me,” laughed Scott.

“But it was incredible, and even just walking around the course, so many of the gallery were cheering for Steve.

“So that was fun.

“But it’s been blown out of proportion, unsurprisingly.

“Then I guess it’s newsworthy stuff. Steve was obviously delighted to win, as was I.  And he was speaking with a bit of emotion probably.

“And besides I certainly don’t think that was Steve’s intention to steal my moment at all.

“But you know, he was asked these questions and he gave his honest answer I assume, and with a lot of things to do with anything related to Tiger Woods, it’s all scrutinized.

“Hopefully we’ll just go and let our clubs do the talking for the rest of the week now.”
