Rock Turned Down $20,000 For Congressional Cap Deal

Remarkably, it’s been revealed Robert Rock turned down $US 20,000 to wear a cap during last week’s U.S. Open at Congressional.

Rock was approached by local Rockville firm ‘Chemical Analysis’ as soon as he arrived at the course on Wednesday morning.

'Hatless' Rober Rock turns down $20,000.

But the new BMW Italian Open champion, who is reputed to have out-layed more than £10,000 on legal fees and missed flights in obtaining a U.S. travel visa, turned down the offer.

Also Rock had to fork out $US 1,000 for a taxi cab ride from Newark Airport to Washington but that was later refunded to him by a local TV station for an exclusive interview with the Midlander.

Rock’s saga enjoyed strong TV news coverage firstly on the eve of the U.S Open and in hours before the start of the tournament.

The bearded Rock, nicknamed by his fellow Tour players as ‘the Fifth Beatle’, was the only competitor in last week’s 156-strong U.S. Open not wearing a cap.

But while Rock wouldn’t wear the cap, his caddy Gary Tilson grabbed the chance for some extra cash with the Maryland land company who paid him $US 7,000 for the four days.

Tilson kept $US 5,000 and gave $US 2,000 to a ‘spotter’ who had brought word of the proposal to Rock.

And it’s believed the company is prepared to again offer Rock $US 20,000 should he change his mind ahead of the August 11th starting U.S. PGA in Atlanta.

Whatever Rock decides, Tilson is again set to pocket $US 5,000.
