Rory McIlroy brilliantly ignited serious hopes of finally ending a nine-year majors winner’s drought to be just one shot from the clubhouse lead mid-way on day two of the U.S. Open.

Fowler Lights Up Beverly Hills Creating US Open History Shooting 62
Rickie Fowler, 34, and runner-up in the event nine-years ago, grabbed the official course record, posting 10 birdies in an eight-under 62.
In doing so, Fowler became the first player in U.S. Open history to shoot a 62, and one fewer than Johnnie Miller’s closing 63 to win the 1973 and 73rd U.S. Open at Oakmont.

U.S. Open $US20m Prize Purse Now Matching ‘Elevated’ PGA Tour Status.
The prize purse for this week’s 123rd U.S Open has been advised as $US 20m, the richest of the four men’s majors and also now matching the series of ‘elevated’ events on the PGA Tour.
The U.S. Open is up $US 2.5m on last year and, by comparison, in 2021, the purse was $12.5 million.
Of course, prize money in the men’s pro game has jumped appreciably since the Saudi-funded LIV Golf arrived with its $25 million purses ($20 million for the 54-hole individual competitions).
