Scottie Scheffler finds himself the golfing bridesmaid for a third tournament running after his second place finish at the Cadillac Championship at Doral.
Scheffler posted a final round 68 ending a distant six shots adrift of fellow countryman Cameron Young who was unchallenged in also signing for a closing 64 to be never headed in capturing the touranment at 19-under-par.
Scheffler kick-started his run of second place results being runner-up to Rory McIlroy at the Masters while a week later England’s Matt Fitzpatrick denied him victory at the RBC Heritage.
And Scheffler is not the only PGA Tour star enjoying a history of three second place results in succession as Sergio Garcia can only boast such a career record.

Young collected his second success in four events since capturing the PGA Tour’s Players Championship along with earning a whopping $3.6m first prize pay-out in the $20m event.
He started the final day with a six-shot lead and began his round by calling a penalty on himself on the par-4 2nd. He was assessed a one-stroke penalty for a breach of Rule 9.4 (player caused their ball at rest to move). He made a 13ft 6in putt to save par and went on to fire six birdies and two bogeys to close with a 68, reach 19-under and win the Cadillac Championship with daylight a distance second.
“It’s just one of those [at the 2nd], your heart sinks when you see it move, but it moved and that’s part of what golf’s about“, Young said.
“There was no one that was going to give me a penalty there but myself and I think I had about four of those on the PGA Tour now, so I need to start setting the club down a little softer.
“But yeah just one of those times. I mean, I wasn’t going to look the other way and say it didn’t move when it rolled over an inch forward, so just unfortunate, but handled it really well.“

As for Scheffler, it was a scenario of so close yet so far for the Texan.
Indeed, Scheffler has created a career first having never before in his pro career finished ‘the bridesmaid’ for three events in succession.
The champion Texas golfer has had three third place finishes in succession – the 2023 Charles Schwab Championship, the 2023 Memorial and the 2023 US Open – while he’s also never savoured a hat-trick of wins or for that matter.
