With the season all but over for most of the world’s top golfer it is again opportune to announce my much-awaited 2104 award winners. GOLFER OF THE YEAR – Rory McIlroy. Two Majors, a first WGC title and capturing the European Tour’s flagship event leaves no one in doubt who was the most outstanding golfer of 2014. Rory McIlroy also returned to No. 1 in the world, competed on a third straight victorious European Ryder Cup winning team as well as ending the year as European No. 1 and was ...

The BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards are a complete farce after World No. 1 Rory McIlroy was denied the top award in favour of F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton. In a season when McIlroy dominated ‘British’ sport in capturing two Majors, a first WGC title and the European Tour’s flagship event it was Hamilton who was honoured on Sunday night in Glasgow. The BBC needs to take a serious look at the awards and the judging process because there’s something drastically ...

Prior to the Gleneagles Ryder Cup Ian Poulter and Stephen Gallacher had exchanged the minimum of pleasantries. The duo were like complete strangers despite each having competed for more than 15 years on the European Tour. It took the Ryder Cup and an opening day Fourball pairing to finally bring the pair together, and it was a pairing and the cementing of a friendship that will live with Poulter and Gallacher for as long as they breathe. Paul McGinley threw ‘Poults’ and the Bathgate pro into ...

There was some comfort for Australia’s Marcus Fraser after the disappointment of letting slip victory in the Thailand Golf Championship after his share of second place was good enough to seal a place into next year’s Open Championship. Fraser along with fellow Australian Scott Hend, American Jonathan Moore and India’s Anirban Lahiri qualified for the 144th Open at St Andrews. Fraser led the chase for the four qualifying places on offer at Amata Spring Country Club with a steady ...

South African Branden Grace produced a commanding final round display to complete a comprehensive wire-to-wire victory at the Alfred Dunhill Championship and capture a fifth European Tour title. The South African, who won all four of his previous European Tour titles during a remarkable 2012 season, had been five clear at the halfway stage after following a sparkling opening 62 with a round of 66. However, a third round 72 kept him 16 under par and saw Dane Lucas Bjerregaard close to within one of ...

Double Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton has waved a virtual chequered flag in favour of Rory McIlroy becoming only the third golfer to be named – BBC Sports Personality of the Year Sunday night in Glasgow. The four-time Major winning McIlroy is a hot favourite among bookies to win the award on the back of his Open Championship and PGA Championship success along with winning the BMW PGA and WGC – Bridgestone Invitational and helping steer Europe to victory in the Ryder Cup. However ...

Two year old Dash Day easily stole the limelight when he accompanied his father into the Media Center at the Franklin Templeton Shootout in Naples, Florida. Day had combined with American Cameron Tringale to win the 12-time event by one shot with a combined three round 32-under par tally on the Greg Norman designed Tiburon Golf Club course. But as Day waited for Tringale to arrive to the interview room at the Media Center young Dash lived up to his Christian name and headed straight for the vacant ...
