Forrest Primed To Bank A 161th Scottish Nation Success On DP World Tour.

A pair of birdies over his last five holes has seen Grant Forrest surerbly regain a share of the lead at 13-under heading into the final round of the Open de Espania in Madrid,

Forrest headed into golf’s traditional ‘moving day’ leading by a shot at nine-under though there was ‘not much happening’ over his opening 10 holes for the 33-year-old Scot ahead of picking-up three birdies in his closing eight holes.

Indeed, Forrest found himself being overtaken and with Frenchman Victor Perez a big mover in being six-under through nine holes and then two shots clear of the Scot before Perez could only manage to par his inward half.

England’s Joe Dean was making all the noise brilliantly birdieing five of his opening eight holes to be out in 31 ahead of three further birdies from the 12th to 15th holes before it turned sour for the 32-year old reigning British Master champ with a double bogey at the 16th a bogey on the 17th ahead of a redeeming birdie at the last in his score of 65.

Three players share third place at 12-under – Perez (67), Dane Jacob Skov Olesen (65) and Swiss golfer Joel Girrback (65).

Forrest is a two-time DP World Tour champion and should he capture a third career win it will not only be a leading or sharing the lead from start to finish but he will be a 161st Scottish champion since the Tour was founded in 1972.

“I’m happy with how I handled today”, said Forrest.

“I didn’t have my best stuff but I’m really proud of how I dug in and made some nice putts, a couple of good recovery shots and all in all a decent score again.

“This is one of my favourite tournaments – it’s been good to me in the past – and I’d love nothing more than to go home with a trophy tomorrow.”

Dean reflected on his closing birdie putt, saying: “It gave a little bit of hope after those previous two holes.

“But nothing’s guaranteed in this game and it only takes a slight lapse in concentration or a bad shot and before you know it you’re chasing.

“It’s nice to finish with a birdie on the last. We’ll go again and see what happens.”

Disappointment for a second Scot in Connor Syme in posting a 75 to slip out of contention and back into a share of 24th place at four-under.
