European Tour loses great friend in Doug Lowe
It is sad to report my dear friend and golf colleague, Doug Lowe passed away on Sunday.
We were intending to visit Dougie this week at his Helensburgh home after learning he had contracted a brain tumour.
But news of his sudden death has come as a real shock to all us that knew Dougie, and unfortunately now we will be heading across to Helensburgh for his funeral.

Martin Kaymer is the new World No.1 ranked golfer no matter whether he wins or loses the WGC – Accenture Match-Play championship.
The German knew he only had to reach the final in Arizona to take Lee Westwood’s place atop of the rankings.

Young Italian stallion Matteo Manassero is on target to become the youngest ever winner of the WGC – Accenture Match-Play Championship.
The 17-year old is among eight players in the remaining 16 to be under 30 years of age.
Manassero, winner of last October’s Castellon Masters, will play England’s Luke Donald in the quarter finals.
In earlier matches he defeated current World No. 8 Steve Striker and then took out South African Charl Schwartzel.

R & A headquarters under wrap
It’s a sight you don’t normally see at the Home of Golf and that’s the R & A head office building under wraps.
The work is being undertaken on the western side and main entrance of the historic clubhouse at the Home of Golf.
A spokesperson for the R & A indicated a structural and refurbishment upgrade is being carried out with the work expected to be completed by spring this year.
