US President Donald Trump wasted little time phoning Scott Jamieson to congratulate him on his Nexo Championship triumph at Trump’s own Trump International course just north of Aberdeen in Scotland.
Trump had certainly surprised Scot Grant Forrest in personally congratulating him post his 2025 Nexo Championship success and now the Florida-based Jamieson, following his two-shot success, has also received a call from Trump.
“It was really cool,” said Jamieson.
Jamieson collected a second DP World Tour title in his 421st tournament though his inaugural Tour victory in December 2012 had been reduced to 36 holes due to severe weather delays so his win today in Scotland is his first over 72 holes.
No such concerns this week though the strong winds played havoc with the field with only 29 players breaking par among the 71 who make the weekend cut.
Jamieson’s success lifted him from 93rd to 42nd on the Race to Dubai money list while he’s broken through the Euro 8m barrier in prize earnings.
“It feels great now. I really enjoyed the day. Sure, I was nervous, but I was proud of how I stuck to my guns,” Jamieson said.
“This is my 16th season on tour and I practice every day and explore different ways to try to get better,” said the new champion. “But, sometimes, you feel you are banging your head against a brick wall. So the odd win here and there makes it all worthwhile.
“There have been times when I thought I might be losing my job out here, but, thankfully, I don’t have to worry about that over the next few weeks when it was potentially on the cards. Hopefully this may open some doors to kick on and push up the ladder.
“This could be a platform to build on coming into an important part of the season when all the big points go up, so it’s a great time to be playing well and, hopefully, I can push on and make way into Play-Offs.”
