Golf, by TourMiss

Those who know me well will be reading this and wondering why it took me so long, and all of three days, for a first game of golf in 2015. Well after seeing in the New Year I dusted off the Callaway’s and headed this afternoon to the very close-by President Golf Club course at West Palm Beach, Florida. The course in recent weeks has become like a second ‘home’ course and while I was quickly soaring with a birdie at the opening hole on my very first game on the Eagle Course, there ...

It was by pure chance I found myself standing at the entrance of one of the most famous picture theaters in the US admiring a photograph of the former Duke and Duchess of Windsor. The building is the historic Paramount Theater in West Palm Beach, Florida. The theater opened just a few days short of 88 years ago on January 9th, 1927.  In 1974 the theater was added to the U.S. National Register of Historical Places and eight years later it was designated a Town Landmark by the Town of Palm Beach. For ...

Here’s a great story and it goes to the heart of what is good about the game of golf and true champions like Rory McIlroy. McIlroy’s kindness centers around the mystery of a parcel sent from Dublin, Ireland to Louisville, Kentucky. The parcel was postmarked 8th December, 2014 but when it was opened in Kentucky the first reaction was who had sent a box of items containing signed PGA Championship and Open Championship flags, caps and other golf related items? In fact, it was McIlroy as ...

With a day remaining in 2014 and World No.1 Rory McIlroy has been spotted not on a golf course or attending a major sporting  event nor getting ready to celebrate the arrival of a new year. No, the four-time Major winner was observed ‘in frame’ as the main display in a West Palm Beach optometrist shop window. And I have to say the photo of McIlroy wearing spectacles bears a striking resemblance to famed rock-and-roll singer Buddy Holly. Take a look for yourself.

Congratulations to Tiger Woods who today (December 30th) celebrates his 39th birthday. The 14-time Major winning Woods, who was born in 1975, is expected to spend the day with his two children at his palatial Jupiter Island residence to the north of West Palm Beach. Others celebrating their birthday on December 30th include Lebron James, NBL star with the Cleveland Cavaliers who turns 30 while comedian Tracey Ullman is 55 and former ‘Monkees’ singer Mike Nesmith will turn the ripe old ...

Fellow Open Champion Greg Norman has led the chorus of ‘Happy Birthday’ for golf’s oldest-living Major Champion – Kel Nagle. Kel turned 94 years of age today (December 21st) and celebrated the occasion with his son and a handful of very close friends. “I know I speak for everyone involved in this great game of golf in wishing Kel a very happy birthday,” said Norman. “And all us continue to wish Kel good health and happiness at this special time of the year.” Nagle ...

Arjun Atwal ended a 1,571 day winless drought in claiming the splendid ‘Golden Camel’ trophy with victory in the inaugural Dubai Open by two shots on the Els Club course in Dubai. The Indian-born Atwal, who had not won since capturing the 2010 Wyndham Championship on the PGA Tour, had trailed by one shot playing the uphill par-five 18th but managed a great up and down for birdie while his playing partner Wang Jeung-hun, who led the field most of the day, ended up with a bogeysix after ...
