Torrey Pines, California …
Rory McIlroy was inititally lost for words when he was asked what his thoughts of the golf swing of 45-year old Ho-sung Choi, the player with the ‘Fisherman Swing’
Choi has played on the Korean Tour, OneAsia Tour. He captured the 2013 Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship, co-sanctioned by the OneAsia Tour and the Japan Golf Tour, making him eligible for Japan Golf Tour membership. Since 2013 he has played primarily on the Japan Golf Tour. Last last year he won the Casio World Open on the Japan Tour.
But it is Choi’s idiosyncratic follow through that is drawing the attention of the golf world and wiht his action being dubbed “The Fisherman Swing” and has won him many fans on social media and elsewhere.

McIlroy asked his thoughts on Choi’s swing on the eve of his debut Farmers Insurance Open appearance was a long pause and some eye-brow raising before answering.
“Um, ah. I mean, I mean, technically his swing is good. If you watch it up until impact, he’s technically got a pretty good swing. He’s obviously a pretty good player,” said McIlroy smiling.
However the smile diminished when McIlroy pointed out:- “Whether that means he should be taking a spot away from a PGA Tour player at a PGA Tour event, I’m not so sure.
“But yeah, I mean, it’s gained a little bit of notoriety and he’s a good player. I’m not sure a golf shot should mean that much to you that you’re doing that after you hit it, like it’s just trying a little too hard. You have to try hard at golf, but that’s taking it to an extreme.”
