Ultra-talented South Korean sensation, Byeong-Hun An (Ben An), will begin his professional career on the European Challenge Tour.
Byeong-Hun An became the youngest USGA Amateur Champion in history in 2009 at just 17 years 11 months and 13 days and earned full Challenge Tour status at Final Stage Qualifying School last December.
The 20-year-old, whose parents won table tennis medals at the Seoul Olympic Games, moved to the United States from South Korea in 2005, continuing his golfing education at the David Leadbetter Golfing Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
Within four years he claimed the most prestigious prize in American amateur golf, beating Ben Martin 7&5 in the final at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa.
Not only was An the youngest golfer to win the USGA’s oldest championship he also became the second consecutive Korean-born golfer to win the Havemeyer Trophy and the fifth international player in seven years.
An will be represented as a professional by International Sports Management.
He said: “I’m looking forward to the challenge and can’t wait to get started. ISM have a great track record in helping young golfers make the breakthrough, so it’s fantastic to be a part of the team.”
ISM CEO, Chubby Chandler, said: “Ben’s credentials speak for themselves. He did wonderfully well to win the USGA Amateur Championship at 17.
“We are delighted that he has decided to join us. I am confident that we can guide him successfully through the often choppy waters that await young golfers starting out on their professional careers.”
