It may be eight years away but there’s strong support for Scotland’s much-admired Dumbarnie Links to play host to the 2034 Walker Cup.
This news comes after the brilliant scenario that unfolded yesterday on the Lahinch host course with the Dean Robertson led GB & I side creating Walker Cup history in coming from a record margin behind to pull off one of the great moments in the 104-year history of the competition.
This recent 54th hosting of the Walker Cup has returned to being hosted every even numbered two years apart and in either the USA or GB & I.

The Walker Cup host venues in coming years are as follows:

According to the Golf News Net, “The future venues outside of the United States, when GB&I hosts, are not projected out into the future in the same way, with a much shorter turnaround for host venues.”
However, because the Walker Cup officially moved to even-numbered years starting in 2026 to avoid overlapping with the World Amateur Team Championship, there is no 2029 Walker Cup scheduled. That’s why the next available slot for a GB&I home venue is the 2034 Walker Cup.
The Rumors and Reality
The Dumbarnie Links leadership and the surrounding golf community are highly optimistic about securing the amateur team tournament in the next decade:
The Vision: Co-developer Clive Clark and general manager David Scott explicitly stated that bringing the historic amateur clash to the Fife coast would be a “dream come true,” underscoring the international recognition the venue has amassed since opening.
The Setup: The course is highly regarded for its fan-friendly layout and its three drivable par-4s (the 3rd, 11th, and 17th). Management has suggested these could be played from the back tees to provide a premier match-play risk-and-reward showcase.
Dumbarnie Links already support: Dumbarnie Links has been like a home for Dean Robertson’s team over the past two Walker Cup’s with the club hosting many practice sessions for Dean’s team.
The Actual Schedule: The R&A—which selects the host venues when the tournament takes place in Europe—traditionally announces its sites with a much shorter lead time than the USGA. While the USGA has locked in its American courses through 2052, the R&A has only confirmed one future location so far.
Given the course’s rapid rise in international acclaim and proximity to St Andrews, very much stands as a strong frontrunner whenever the R&A decides to award the mid-2030s matches.
And what a toast it will be on the first tee at Dumbarnie Links should it be rewarded with the 2034 go ahead – a course that proudly boasts a whiskey barrell and a complimentary bottle of scotch to taste for all teeing-up (see image).
