It now seems the much-anticipated and 15-month wait is officially over as Tiger Woods is returning to competition at next month’s Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas#
The 14-time Major winner has not competed anywhere since finishing T10th in 2015 Wydnham Championship.
Woods had been due to return three weeks ago in the Safeway Open, and the first event of the 2016/17 PGA Tour scheduled but he abandoned those plans and also a goal of teeing-up in this week’s European Tour’s Turkish Airlines Open citing: “M game is vulnerable and it’s not where it needs to be.”
But in withdrawing from the Turkish Airlines Open Woods did indicated he to play in the Hero World Challenge, which is held Dec. 1-4 at Albany in the Bahamas.
However, two weeks ago, while on a media tour in conjunction with the 20th anniversary celebration of his Tiger Woods Foundation, Woods said in an interview with late-night host Stephen Colbert, “I’ll be there. I’m playing,” of the Hero World Challenge.
A day earlier, in an interview with Charlie Rose, Woods said he “hoped” to play in the event.
“I am excited to make my return at the Hero World Challenge at Albany and play in this terrific tournament,” Woods said in a statement released Tuesday.
“This is our 18th year, and every year we put together a top field that showcases the best golfers from the previous season. Albany is an outstanding setting, and I can’t thank Hero MotoCorp enough for their support of the tournament and my foundation.”
Just 18 players will compete in the Bahamas including reigning US Open winner Dustin Johnson, current Race to Dubai leader Henrik Stenson along with Scotland’s Russell Knox and local Bahamas resident Justin Rose.
But missing from this year’s event will be the likes of Jason Day and new World No. 2 Rory McIlroy.
