Jackson Koivun’s maiden PGA Tour victory in only his third event as a pro has seen him jump 133 spots to become the new World No. 73rd ranked player.
The 21-year-old Koivun impressively kept four major champions, including World No. 1 and four-time major champ Scottie Scheffler who finished inside the top-10, at arms reach to capture the 3M Open by three shots.
Victory earned the Tour rookie a cool $1.584m along with a two-year Tour exemption plus a maiden apperance in next April’s Masters at Augusta National.
Koivun teed-up at the 3M sponsored event as the World No. 206th ranked event but he heads to this week’s Rocket Classic in Detroit Michigan as the new World No. 73.

The former World No. 1 ranked amateur held off a spirited Sunday surgre from Scheffler who mounted closing 63 to claim solo second place at 22 under.
The Tour rookie spoke after his round of his excitement in becoming the game’s newest winner.
“Yeah, I mean, I know the PGA TOUR is hard and it’s very competitive, and fortunately enough I was able to get quite a few sponsor exemptions last summer to kind of get acquainted with the feeling of playing on the PGA TOUR,” he said.
These last three events have been definitely a little bit of a wake-up call getting back into the swing of things on the PGA TOUR, but I’m just excited with the way I played this week”.
The OWGR reports Koivun’s rise to being among the world’s top-100 is one of the most rapid ascents in recent OWGR history. Indeed, Koiuvn’s leap mirrors that of Aussie LIV start Lucas Herbert who was ranked No. 238th in the world at the end of last year though now after a second wire-t0-wire success in six weeks is now the World No. 46th ranked player.
Tom Kim’s third at last month’s US Open also saw him leap from 141st in the world to No. 64.
Of note, South African Casey Jarvis was lying 195th on the rankings in capturing the co-sanctioned Magical Kenya Open in late February, a victory that lifted him to World No. 128th and he then jumped to No. 80 a week later in landing the similar co-sanctioned South African Open.
Easily the biggest leap forward of those currently ranked inside the top-100 is American Blades Brown having been ranked World No. 482 at the end of 2025 and currently No. 97, and all thanks to two top-10 results on the PGA Tour and also three top-10s on the secondary KornFerry Tour.
