Donaldson Topples Wilting Rose To Win Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship.

Welshman Jamie Donaldson has stormed past a wilting Justin Rose to claim his second Race to Dubai success with a final round 68 and win the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship by one stroke with a 14-under par total.

Rose, who was looking to make amends after also being relegated to second place two months ago by Rory McIlroy in nearby Dubai, signed for a 71 to share second place on 13-under par with Thorbjorn Olesen.

Donaldson began the last day two behind Rose and won despite a three-putt bogey at the last.

It had taken Donaldson some 10 year and 255 tournaments to capture a first European Tour victory in winning the Irish Open and now some six months and 14 events later he’s won a second.

Victory will send Donaldsonn inside the top-30 on the World Rankings and virtually guaranteed himself a place in all four Majors for 2013.

“It’s pretty surreal really to be standing here with the trophy as I got away with murder there up the last to be fair, so I’m very happy to have won,” he said.

“It was pretty nerve-wracking waiting to see if either Justin or Thorbjorn would hole their putts to force a play-off but it wasn’t to be.

“But to win again so soon it’s like buses because it took a while to win my first and now I’ve won a second not long after my first.

“Winning the Irish Open last year was fantastic but to top it off with this win is awesome.”
