World’s Top Three To Compete Together At Congressional

U.S. Open organisers have released the draw for the opening two rounds at Congressional.

The game’s top three ranked players – Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and Martin Kaymer – will compete alongside each other for the opening two rounds of the championship.

Three other top-10 ranked players in Rory McIlroy, Dustin Johnson and Phil Mickelson will be sharing each other’s company for at least the opening two days.

Defending U.S. Open winner Graeme McDowell will tee-up in the company of reigning U.S. Amateur champ, Peter Uihlein as well as the current British Open titleholder, Louis Oosthuizen.

Organisers have grouped three Masters champions in Charl Schwartzel, fellow countryman Trevor Immelman and Zach Johnson together.

Also there will be an all-Italian three ball of Francesco Molinari, his brother Edoardo and Matteo Manassero who is making his U.S. Open debut.

And to keep that trend going there is an all-Spanish grouping of Alvaro Quiros, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Sergio Garcia.

As well, Sweden’s Henrik Stenson, Johan Edfors and Freddie Jacobson will play together.

With all three no doubt set to play practice rounds together it could mean upwards of five rounds together ahead of the third day’s play.

Korean Daehyun Kim has the distinction of leading out the 111th U.S. Open and will tee up at 7am local time on Wednesday.

Also in the first group is Ireland’s Shane Lowry who will be competing in his first U.S. Open after finishing the second leading qualifier at Walton Heath.

Last out at 2.52pm is Californian amateur Beau Hossler.
