Marc Warren is looking to end the despair of letting slip victory in the Aberdeen Asset Scottish Open with victory in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.
Warren built a strong platform to end a five-year winless drought with a six-under par 66 on the first day of the $8m event being staged on the Earth Course at Jumeriah Estates.
The Glaswegian’s score was just two shots shy of the Greg Norman course designed record.
Earlier this year Warren had been leading by two strokes with three holes to play but three-putted the 16th hole for double bogey and then had to take a penalty drop on route to bogey at 17.
Warren, who was looking to become only the second Scotland-born champion, then pared the last in a round of 71 to share third place on 16-under par with Sweden’s Alex Noren (70).
