Ian Poulter – Four Ryder Cups, Two WGC Victories & One Ambition Of A First Major Success.

Ian Poulter has now seriously stamped himself one of the best golfers never to win a Major after capturing the WGC – HSBC Champions event at Mission Hills in China.

Poulter came from four shots back at the start of the third round to win by two and adding a second straight 65 for a 21-under par tally on the Olazabal designed course at Shenzhen.

The 36-year old English golfer’s win is the 15th worldwide in a 17-year pro career.

It also is his second WGC victory after capturing the 2010 WGC – Accenture Match Play Championship and it comes less than a month after helping steer Europe to victory in the ‘Miracle at Medinah’ when Poulter birdied his closing five holes on Saturday in the Ryder Cup.

Poulter has three events remaining this year before the New Year and thoughts then of the 2013 season and hopefully a first Major Championship success.

He was a best of second in the 2008 Open Championship behind Padraig Harrington.

“It would be nice to win a first Major,” he said.

“Well, I think I’m at the stage of my life and career where I’ve won some big tournaments and obviously this is going to go down there as another big tournament.

“I base my schedule around the majors, and obviously people and players get looked upon with how they have played golf over the years by how many majors they have won.  I have not done that yet, and hopefully this will certainly help towards confidence and ‑‑ not that I really need too much of that, but just getting me the right mind‑set really to go out there and perform like I know I can.

“I know I’ve got the golf game to be able to go out there and win majors.  People keep asking all the time:  When, when, when.  I don’t know when, and I’m trying really hard and obviously I’d like to put one in the trophy cabinet, simple.  But I’ll do my best next year and see if I can do that.”

And after moving to fourth on the Race to Dubai Poulter has ruled out any thought of competing in this week’s Barclays Singapore Open, and instead was heading back to Orlando to catch up with his wife and young children.

As well, Poulter is eagerly looking forward to the delivery of a new vehicle.

He would not reveal the make of his new motor but www.golfbytourmiss.com has at a guess it was made in Italy and the manfacturer’s name begins with ‘L’.
