Padraig Harrington The 2012 Ryder Cup Big Loser.

Ireland’s Padraig Harrington has ended a run of six straight Ryder Cup appearances in being overlooked by European Team captain, Jose Maria Olazabal for a ‘wildcard’ pick.

As most expected, Olazabal chose England’s Ian Poulter and Belgium’s Nicolas Colsaerts.

Harrington ended the qualification process ranked 19th on the table and could look back to missing out of contesting the Masters, the U.S. Open and three WGC events this year as hurting his Medinah chances.

Of course, there had the controversy at last week’s Johnnie Walker Championship resulting from an incident in the 2003 Seve Trophy.#

But in the end, Olazabal plainly stated that Harrington had simply not done enough.

“Well, I talked to Padraig last night, and I was very straight to the point,” said Olazabal.

“I know he tried hard.  He played well at the Masters; he finished eighth.  He had a good U.S. Open and then the following week he had a great Irish Open.  But you know, he was 19th on the list.  He was just a little bit down the list.

“I know he’s a great player.  I would have loved to have him on the team the same way I would have loved to have Paul Casey, Robert Karlsson, Henrik Stenson.  Those are great players.  But you need to be playing good, simple as that.  I think he took it well, and that was it.”
