McIlroy Pulls Plug On Bermuda Grand Slam Of Golf.

World No. 1 Rory McIlroy has turned down competing in the Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda.

McIlroy earned a place in the ‘Major winner’s only’ event being held in Bermuda from October 22nd to 24th after capturing last fortnight’s PGA Championship.

Rory McIlroy will not be taking the Wanamaker Trophy to Bermuda after withdrawing from the Grand Slam of Golf.

But two weeks after saying he was looking forward to a Bermuda ‘holiday’ and McIlroy instead confirmed he will be in China to prepare for the defence of his October 25th commencing BMW Masters in Shanghai.

Keegan Bradley, winner of the 2011 Grand Slam of Golf is now expected to take McIlroy’s place, and if he should be unavailable then 2010 U.S. Open champion, Graeme McDowell is on standby to travel to Bermuda.

an is already committed to play in the Volvo Shanghai Masters, which starts Oct. 25; the Grand Slam of Golf, a four-man exhibition among the reigning major champions, will be contested Oct. 22-24 in Bermuda.

Masters champion Bubba Watson, U.S. Open champion Webb Simpson and British Open champion Ernie Els – who won this event in 2010 – are all expected to attend.

McIlroy will be remaining in China where on Monday 29th October, and the day after the BMW Masters, he will tackle Tiger Woods in an 18-hole exhibition match.
