However Kim sent his 200-yard second shot at the last some 64-feet right of the flag from where he agonisingly three-putted for a bogey ‘5’ and when a par ‘4’ would have handed him a score of 59.
Nonetheless, Kim’s effort sees him take a five-shot lead at 18-under into the weekend rounds.
Only 15 total rounds of 59 or better have ever been recorded on the PGA Tour. Fourteen different players have accomplished the feat, with Jim Furyk doing it twice, including the Tour-record 58 at the 2016 Travelers Championship, the tournament captured by Scot Russek Knox that GolfByTourMiss was in attendance.
The list of players who have also shot 59 includes Justin Thomas, Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Young, Jake Knapp and Brandt Snedeker among others.
