Rahm Now In Ryder Cup Selection Limbo As Eight Other LIV Stars Make Peace With DP World Tour

The Ryder Cup future of double winning European winning team member Jon Rahm remains in limbo after a statement released earlier today by the DP World Tour.

The Tour confirmed in a 198-word statement that eight players – Laurie Canter, Thomas Detry, Tyrrell Hatton, Tom McKibbin, Adrian Meronk, Victor Perez, David Puig and Elvis Smylie – have each formally agreed to new terms that hopefully will bring a close to the row over sanctions being imposed each time they play an event under the LIV Golf banner.

Under the structure of the agreement, the eight have accepted to pay fines already accured and committed to playing extra DPWT tournaments, beyond the minimum of four required to retain membership of the Tour.

This decision in already being seen as an extremely generous offer, especially as LIV promised to cover all outstanding fines up until the start of this year.

GolfByTourMiss understands a deadline of yesterday (February 20th) was set to accept the terms though with today’s DP World Tour statement giving no mention whatsoever of Rahm.

It can only be interpreted Rahm, as LIV Golf’s highest signing, has chosen not to join his fellow LIV stars in making peace with the DP World Tour and with the former World No 1 seemingly intent on continuing his long-running plans for an appeal.

It is believed this appeal will be conducted by an independent body and could commence before the summer.

However, until any decision is reached the 31-year-old super Spaniard is in Ryder Cup selection  limbo.

The Tour statment added:  The conditions the eight members have accepted will provide additional value to the DP World Tour and benefit to the entire membership.

Provided each member satisfies the conditions of their individual releases, no disciplinary action under the Regulations will be taken against them for playing in conflicting tournaments on LIV Golf in 2026 and they will retain their membership status.

The releases apply for the 2026 season only and they are not precedent-setting. Requests for releases will continue to be considered on their individual merits in accordance with the Regulations that all members agree to abide by.

Though the statement made no mention that disciplinary action will continue to be taken against all tour members who play in conflicting LIV events without release.

Other higher-profile LIV Golf players like Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, Martin Kaymer and Graeme McDowell were not offered the deal as they are no longer tour members.
