This week’s third edition of the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship will feature not one past Masters champion but now two.
Patrick Reed was always teeing-up in Bahrain but now the 2018 Augusta National winner has been joined by a fellow Masters champion, and also LIV Golf team-mate in Sergio Garcia.
Reed is entered as a full DP World Tour member having being afforded life membership of the Tour in 2019 and a year after winning The Masters while Garcia was afforded one of three tournament invitations.
It was Garcia, as the 2017 champion who help fit the famed Augusta National members green jacket onto Reed a year later.
The now 46-year-old Garcia has captured 38 victories in his pro career, 16 on the DP World Tour and 11 on the PGA Tour while he’s won twice on the LIV Golf Tour, including last year’s LIV Golf Hong Kong Open.
And Garcia’s appearance will give him the opportunity to congratulate fellow Spaniard Nacho Elvira, winner of the recent Dubai Inviational, the opening DP World Tour event of the New Year.
There’s also a third major champion in the field with triple major winning Padraig Harrington teeing-up in the $2.75m event.
The championship will also feature a strong Olympic presence, with Harrington, Garcia, Matteo Manassero, Guido Migliozzi, Thomas Detry, Ashun Wu, Bernd Wiesberger, Rafa Cabrera Bello and Antoine Rozner all having represented their nations at the Olympic Games.
Former Bahrain champion Dylan Frittelli returns to the Kingdom, while the field is further strengthened by a strong contingent of multiple DP World Tour winners. This includes Rolex Series winners Paul Waring, Cabrera Bello and Wiesberger, alongside Thriston Lawrence, Pablo Larrazábal and Ewen Ferguson. The line-up is completed by current Race to Dubai leader Jayden Schaper and 2025 Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year Martin Couv
