Graeme McDowell has announced he is leaving LIV Golf despite the breakaway league indicating it is looking to relaunch for the 2027 season with a new invester.
McDowell issued a 40-word statement via his X account (see below) he’s decided he will not persue LIV 2.0.
The golfer affectionately known as ‘G Mac’ is following in footsteps of fellow LIV stars Jon Rahm, Ian Poulter, Tyrrell Hatton and his fellow Northern Ireland born Tom McKibbin in turning their backs on LIV Golf.
As well, Sergio Garcia went public indicating he also would not be continuing competing for LIV.

McDowell ‘advised’ the golf world he had joined LIV Golf when on 31 May 2022, he was named in the field for the first LIV Golf Invitational Series event at Centurion, near London.
He resigned his membership of the PGA Tour and DP World Tour shortly before the start of play.
McDowell played in all fourteen events as part of the 2023 LIV Golf League as part of Cleeks GC alongside Martin Kaymer, Bernd Wiesberger, and Richard Bland. He also played in seven events on the Asian Tour during the year. At the end of the LIV season, McDowell ranked 42nd in the individual standings.
His contract expired and he was not offered a contract extension by his team. His best finish in the 2023 LIV Golf season was a 12th place finish at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster. On 28 November 2023, McDowell signed with Smash GC for the 2024 LIV Golf League.
Sergio Garcia, has also ended his LIV contract, while Hatton announced on social media on Friday that he too would “not be a part of LIV 2.0”.
The league was left searching for new investment, but secured financing from BC Partners Credit before filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and citing its intentions to relaunch again in 2027 in a new league, dubbed LIV 2.0.
BC Partners had set a deadline of October 25 for players to commit to the league going forward, with a handful of players having announced they would re-sign.
McDowell, who was a part of LIV Golf’s OKGC side, joined the breakaway league in 2022.
His last start at a DP World Tour event, outside of the majors, came at the 2022 BMW PGA Championship.
G Mac has capped his pro career winning the 2010 US Open at Pebble Beach. Later that same year McDowell holed the winning putt that delivered Europe victory in the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor, Wales.
He’s won a tally of 16 pro events around the golfing globe.
Footnote ….
Earlier this year, McDowell told BBC Sport NI he had held “really positive” talks about returning to the DP World Tour next season, adding he was “lucky to have that option”.
