Fox Gives Thumbs Up After Rush Surgery.

As the golf world focussed on whether or not Rory McIlroy would tee-up in the defence of his Players Championship we learned champion New Zealander golfer Ryan Fox had withdrawn from the $5m tournament.

We did learn ahead of the event American David Ford was first reserve and only because he would take McIlroy’s place should McIlroy elect not to tee-up at TPC Sawgrass.

However, no sooner had the tournament got underway and there was the shock sight of double major-winning Collin Morikawa grabbing his lower back after playing a practice shot on the 11th tee, and the second hole of his round.

As Morikawa had commenced his round it meant there could be no replacement for him though we got no word on the reason for Fox’s withdrawal.

The Tour released a X message saying Fox had withdrawn due to ‘illness’ but the X message was all about Ford getting a start in the event.  TV coverage nor the Tour’s Sirius XM radio made any mention of Fox.

Then at day’s end that the Tour released their regular post round notes that Fox was mentioned, as the very last item, had withdraw due to ‘illness’.

There was no real advice as to Fox’s ‘illness’ until checking Fox’s Instagram account and the dramatic sight of the proud New Zealander laid-up in a hospital bed, and quickly realising the seriousness of this absence from Tour HQ.

“Not exactly the week I had planned here @theplayers “, said the double Tour winning Fox.

“Unfortunately, some kidney stones took me down on Tuesday night and then had to be dealt with surgically this afternoon. Devastated to miss out on such an amazing event, hoping to have a quick recovery and be back at it soon. #foxtracker

Wow!

Kidney stones cannot be taken lightly as a internet check reveal they are hard, painful mineral deposits (often calcium oxalate) in the kidneys caused by dehydration, diet, and metobolic issues.

Symptoms include severe side/back pain, blood in urine, nausea, and fever. Small stones pass in 1–3 weeks, while larger ones require procedures like lithotripsy (a non-invasive, outpatient procedure using high-energy waves to break kidney stones into small fragments).

Wishing one of the nicest golfers in the game was in not too much discomfort and he enjoys a good recovery.
