Fleetwood Sees Off Scheffler & Thomas To Be Three Clear Heading To Maiden Tour Title.

Tommy Fleetwood brilliantly posted a ‘moving day’ 63 compfortably seeing off the challenge of both World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and Justin Thomas to be three shots clear atop of the field at 16-under heading to the final round of the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.

Fleetwood is contesting his 169th PGA Tour event and still seeking a maiden success.

The Englishman, who’s won sevon times in his pro career since a maiden sucess in 2013, superbly capped his round with a 13th hole eagle ‘3’ along with five birdies on the host TPC River Highlands course.

“It’ll come down to a bunch of things really,” Fleetwood said.  “Being in the last group, I’m really happy with that.

“I’m happy with the work I’ve done. It’s just an amazing opportunity to go out here tomorrow and hopefully it’s my time.”

American Russell Henley signed for a best of the three rounds 61 to be sharing second place at 13-under with USA Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley, who matched Fleetwood’s 63.

Bradley, the 2023 Travelers winner, birdied four of the first seven holes, three of his birdie putts from outside 15 feet, and birdied three of the last six holes, a five-footer at the last grabbing a share of second.

“Every one counts because we’re going to have to go out and shoot another low one tomorrow,” Bradley said.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler had a 29th birthday he’d rather forget teeing-off in the final third round group but then horribly posting an opening hole tripple-bogey ‘7’ on route to a shock two-over 72 and be sharing eighth place at seven-under and nine adrift of Fleetwood.

Thomas fared no better signing for a 63 to be a further shot back of Scheffler and tied 14th at six-under.

Not only will Fleetwood now be seeking to finally break through for his maiden PGA Tour title but he’ll be seeking to become just a seventh non-American to win the coveted title since the event was first hosted in 1952 as the Insurance City Open.   The last non-American winner was Scotland’s Russell Knox in 2016, who today is celebrating his 40th birthday.

And if Fleetwood should succeed he will become the 16th non-American to win on this year’s PGA Tour.

Bring it on, Tommy.
