DeChambeau Was Having A Shower When Informed Of His Ryder Cup Selection

Philadelphia, PA ..

Bryson DeChambeau was always going to be affored a first USA Ryder Cup team cap after winning the opening the two events of the FedEx Cup Play-Off series.

But the ultra-confident 24-year old Florida-born did not expect to be taking a shower when US team vice-captain, Davis Love 111 phoned DeChambeau to advise he needed to phone team leader, Jim Furyk.

Here’s Bernie’s ( www.golfbytourmiss.com) question to the newest 2018 USA Team rookie.

Qn:  Bryson, I am curious, where were you at the time and what were you doing when Jim actually phoned you to confirm you were in the team?
BRYSON DeCHAMBEAU:  “Well, I just took a shower (chuckles). I just got out of the shower and Davis actually texted me and said, “Give the captain a call.”

“So I gave him a call. He invited me to the team, and that was a tremendous honor. It was a moment — there are some moments in life that are just too good to be true, and that was one of them, but it was true, and it was an honor that I’ll never forget. That will be locked away in my memory for a long time.”

DeChambeau’s selection is rich reward for his determination in over the past few weeks.

DeChambeau had been lambasted for his lack of sportsmanship in fully shaking hands with England’s Richard McEvoy in losing out in the Porsche European Open in Germany and the very week following The Open.

Then there was the disappointment of falling one place outside of being among the eight leading qualifiers when he missed the halfway cut in the PGA Championship.

However DeChambeau brilliantly and remarkably laid those demons to rest in winning the Northern Trust by four shots and then on Monday winning with east to lift the Dell Technologies Championship trophy.

“I knew I had to play really well. Look, any time you’re trying to make your first Ryder Cup, it’s not easy and I know that to be a fact, given I experienced what I needed to do to make the team,” he said.

“And even after I won at Ridgewood, I still thought, man, I’ve got to play well at Boston just to show them that, yeah, I’m a contender and I’m going to keep doing the right things to be a valuable asset to the team.

“You know, and again, this is about the team, and I wanted to be a part of this experience, so badly, that I worked twice as hard, and it showed and it paid off.”
