McEvoy Creates A Double Victory First In 8-Years Winning Back-To-Back On Challenge & European Tours.

England’s Richard McEvoy has created a European first in eight years in birding the last to brilliantly capture the Porsche European Open in Hamburg.

A week ago, McEvoy won the Challenge Tour’s La Vaudreuil Golf Challenge in France and he’s now captured a maiden main European Tour title a week later in birding the last hole to break clear of a four-way tie for the lead and win by a shot in Germany.

  • It is McEvoy’s first European Tour victory in his 285th appearance
  • He is the first person in eight years to follow up a Challenge Tour win with a win on the European Tour. In 2010, Martin Wiegele of Austria followed his win at the Kärnten Golf Open by Markus Brier Foundation (Challenge Tour) with victory at the SAINT-OMER OPEN presented by Neuflize OBC (European Tour)
  • McEvoy could move into the top 70 of the Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex on 393,160 points from 192nd
  • He would leap into the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time in his career, to as high as 81st from 275th
  • It is the tenth time an Englishman has won the Porsche European Open, and the second successively. He is the ninth separate winner of the event from England, following Jordan Smith (2017), Ross Fisher (2008), Kenneth Ferrie (2005), Lee Westwood (2000 and 1999), David Gilford (1994), Nick Faldo (1992), Andrew Murray (1989) and Paul Way (1987)
  • McEvoy also is the second successive player to make the Porsche European Open the first win of his career, Smith having also done so last year.
  • He is also the sixth English victory on the 2018 European Tour schedule, following Chris Paisley (BMW SA Open hosted by the City of Ekurhuleni), Tommy Fleetwood (Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship presented by EGA), Eddie Pepperell (Commercial Bank Qatar Masters) and Matt Wallace’s wins at the Hero Indian Open and BMW International Ope
  • And the win is the 325th European Tour win for a player from England
