Kevin Phelan’s Scottish Open Entry Status Alters – Invitation Not Needed.

Mt. Juliet’s Kevin Phelan now finds himself not needing an invitation to contest this week’s Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open.

The rookie professional has come off the list of five players afforded Royal Aberdeen invitations and now finds himself a Category 12 entrant, and qualifying for the £3m event as having finished top-27 in the 2013 European Tour graduate school.

It means event organisers now have four invitations to hand out later this morning (Monday) that will bring the total to eight invitations.

And Northern Ireland’s Michael Hoey will decide later this morning if he will take his place in the Scottish Open.

Hoey secured a place into next week’s Open Championship after finishing the second leading Royal Liverpool qualifier with his seventh place result in teh French Open.

It will be only Hoey’s second Open Championship appearance after competing in 2001 as the then British Amateur champion.
