Condeleeza Will Have Trouble Clearing The Pond At Augusta’s 15th Says Monty.

Colin Montgomerie exhibited his mischievous side when asked to comment on the decision by Augusta National to admit women members for the first time in the club’s 80-year history.

Former US Secretary of State, Condaleeza Rice and business woman, Darla Moore have been voted the first women to become members of the exclusive Georgia club.

Monty was asked to comment on the decision following his Johnnie Walker Championship second round of 68 to move to four under par in the Gleneagles tournament.

Monty joked:  “It’s a great decision.  Delighted.  But they will find it difficult to clear the pond at 15.”

However the eight-time European No. 1 soon after spoke at length saying how pleased he was that clubs like Augusta National are slowly being dragged into the 21st Century but then expressing a wish the R & A will follow suit.

“I’m not a member of the R&A and never will be as a pro, so I’ve got a very difficult‑‑ so I can’t say anything about that,” he added.

“I’m just glad that Augusta have selected two lady members for the first time now into the golf club and I’m sure that in this day and age and it’s just a matter of time before ladies are members of other golf clubs.  So that was brilliant.  That was very impressive, that.

“It’s only a matter of time before ladies are members of other clubs.”
