Charlie Woods, 15, will eclipse his 15-time major winning father should he qualify to tee-up in next week’s PGA Tour Cognizant Classic at PGA National in Florida.

Charlie and Tiger’s youngest of two children, will compete in one of four pre-qualifiers on Thursday as he aims to reach the Cognizant Classic, and a new event on the PGA Tour schedule replacing the long-running Honda Classic.

Charlie Woods will first tee-up in an 18-hole pre-qualifier at Lost Lake Golf Club, located at Hobe Sound and close to his father’s abode, where he has been grouped with Ireland’s Ruaidhri McGee and American Olin Browne Jr.

The top-25 players will advance to the final qualifier at Tesoro Club’s Palmer Course, about a 30-minute drive north up the I-95 to Port St. Lucie and with the top-four and ties earning a tee time in the Cognizant Classic, which takes place from 29 February to 3 March.

If successful, Charlie will be a year younger than his father who was 16 when he contested the 1992 Los Angeles Open thanks to an invitation,

The teenage Woods is no stranger to big-time competition as he has competed in the last four editions of the PNC Championship at the Ritz Carlton course in Orlando event alongside his father.

As well, Charlie finished tied 17th in the boys’ 14-15 division of last year’s Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship, with 15-time major champion Tiger acting as his caddie.

Don’t be surprised if Tiger is again caddying for his son.
