Olesen Seals Biggest Winning Margin Of His Career In Capturing Ras Al Khaimah Title

Dane Thorbjørn Olesen has secured not only his eighth DP World Tour but he’s done so with the biggest victory margin of his career in capturing the Ras Al Khaimah Championship by six shots on the stunning host Al Hamra Golf Club course.

Olesen, 34, fought back from a birdie, double-bogey start to the last day to then birdie the third, eagle the par-5 eighth hole ahead of birdies at the 10th, 14th and at the last in a round of 67 for a 27-under tally.

It’s been 12 -years since the Dane won a first DP World Tour title and now he’s captured an eighth, and with his proud wife and children looking on.

Disappointment in the Hojgaard family with Rasmas Hojgaard finishing runner-up and after his twin brother Nicolai was runner-up in the PGA Tour’s Farmers Insurance Open.

“It’s very special,” said now Dubai-based Olesen, whose family were present to see his win. “Standing here with (son) Cooper makes it a little more special.

“It was still a battle out there, it got close and you’ve got one of the most solid players right behind you so I knew it was going to be tough and we were tied for the lead very quickly.

“I played some nice golf coming in and holed the right putts at the right time.

“To win was a goal and it was nice to get that here, especially being here at my new home. It’s always a place I like to come to, not just for golf but for holidays. It’s a great place and I’m really happy that I could get a win here.”
