No 37th Birthday Gift Ruling For Harman In Dubai

There was no 37th birthday gift ruling for Open Champion Brian Harman on day two of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.

Harman found his third shot into the final green obstructed by a floating ‘Hero’ sign that is moored to the left side of the water guarding the par-5 18th on the Majlis course at the famed Emirates Club.

The American, and contesing the event for a first time, was initially advised by a female rules official he must play his ball where it lies but responded: “I’m a little surprised I can’t just get a drop from the sign”.

Then, as he is quite entitled, Harman advised the official he would like to speak to the chief rules official who soon arrived at the scene and wasted little time to confirm the initial ruling: “No, you must play your ball where it lies.  The sign is an integral object and can’t be moved”.

Harman politely accepted the ruling ahead of easily chipping over the floating sign and then two-putting for par, and posting second straight 71 to be at two-under.

And Harman was not the only player celebrating a birthday with England’s Tommy Fleetwood, and winner of last week’s Dubai Invitational, celebrating his 32nd birthday.

Also celebrating a birthday was Tommy Fleetwood, winner of last week’s inaugural Dubai Invitational.

Fleetwood toasted his 32nd birthday with a second round 70 to be tied 15th at five-under.

Cameron Young birdied three of his opening four holes and then birdied his last three in an eigth-under 64 for the visiting American to move three clear of his rivals at 13-under on the host Emirates Club course.
