Jamieson Stays In Sight Of Ending Decade-Long Victory Drought

Scott Jamieson remains on target to end a decade-long winless drought heading to the final round of the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa.

Jamieson had let slip a three-shot lead going into golf’s traditional ‘moving day’ but regrouped in a round of 70 and end the day tied for the lead at 15-under-par on the Leopard Creek course at Malelane, some 250-miles to the east of Joburg.

The Scot’s new course record 63 from day two lasted just one round with South African Ockie Strydom posting a similar score join Jamieson at the top of the board with a round to play in the closing event of the year.

Strydom, 37, grabbed an eagle and eight birdies but let slip a 62 or lower in finishing his round with a bogey and two pars.

Jamieson birdied the second to stay clear of the co-sanctioned field but then bogeyed four and five, birdied six but dropped a shot at seven before the Glaswegian grabbed a birdie hat-trick from the 11th that got him back into a then tie for the lead.

He pared his next five holes to join the shorts-wearing Strydom, and with the pair two clear of three players in third place.

“It was a solid day’s work but with the course playing a lot tougher,” said Jamieson.

“It was not the best of starts with a couple of early bogeys that killed the momentum and while one-over at the turn wasn’t a real disaster, I knew there would be chances on the back nine, and nice to grab three birdies in a row.

“So, two under was a good day.  The tournament begins at the back-nine tomorrow and this is why we play this game.”

It was 10-years ago yesterday (9th December, 2012) that Jamieson captured the rain-shortened Nelson Mandela Championship in Durban, and his only Tour win.
