MacIntyre Hoping He Has His ‘Best Stuff’ For Second Leg RAK Double Header

Robert MacIntyre will be hoping he has his ‘best stuff’ for this week’s Ras Al Khaimah Classic, and the second $2m DP World Tour event in succession on the stunning Al Hamra course laid out close to the Arabian Sea, and an hour’s drive north of Dubai.

MacIntyre tees up in his fourth event of a new season and with the Oban lefty securing the first paycheque of a fourth season last Sunday with his share of 13th but with no thanks to last Sunday’s final round 73 and seeing him slip to No. 66 in the world.

MacIntyre said: “It was an alright result last week but then I’m still trying to win golf tournaments at the moment.

“I just didn’t have my best stuff here last Sunday but I do feel I am getting closer to my best stuff, and I’m playing a lot better than I was for my opening two events.

“Normally, I am pretty good at the start of the new season and I think that has shown in the last couple of years, such as third last year at the Desert Classic.

“Though there are so many golf tournaments in a year, so why worry about what happened in the last three events.  It’s early doors ye, so I will just get on with it”.

The last time MacIntyre played in back-to-back DP World Tour events was in November 2020 when the Scot finished third at the Cyprus Open and broke through for a maiden Tour win a week later on the same course to capture the Cyprus Showdown.

He said: “It would be lovely to repeat this week what I did out in Cyprus but there are no course similarities as this course is wider open and not as much punishment as the Cyprus course.

“You can still have a good week here no matter what you’re doing”.

Joining MacIntyre this week is long-time coach, Davy Burns who was in Saudi Arabia last week overseeing ultra-talented Jordanian-born Brit Shergo Al Kurd who was teeing up in the Asian Tour’s Saudi International along the Red Sea shoreline.

After searching mid-morning Wednesday, Burns found MacIntyre in the tournament gym and with the pair, along wiht MacIntyre’s caddy heading to the clubhouse where legendary caddy Ian ‘Wobbly’ Morbey kept all and sundy entertained.

Team MacIntyre then left the clubhouse for the practice range with the young Scot slapping plenty of sunscreen and his very white-looking face, arms and legs.

MacIntyre is among a big contingent of 10 Scots in the Al Hamra field.
