Good Augusta News For MacIntyre Despite Dropping Down Rankings

It’s overall good news Masters-wise for top-ranked Scot Robert MacIntyre despite dropping two places on the World Rankings and with just 13 days (March 29th) to official confirmation of a maiden Augusta National invitaton.

MacIntyre dropped two places to be now ranked No. 44 in the world after missing the halfway cut in last week’s PGA Tour flagship Players Championship and needing to be inside the top-50 on the last Monday this month to be afforded a maiden Masters invitation.

The Oban lefty has not taken a step backward on the rankings since his breakthrough European Tour victory last November in Cyprus.

MacIntyre jumped 29 places to 61st in the world with victory on the Mediterranean island nation and then moved to 44th and inside the magical top-50 for the first time in his career with a third-place finish early last month at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic.

In arriving into the States, the 24-year-old picked-up two World Rankings places, first in moving to No. 43 at the WGC event on Florida’s west coast and up to No. 42 with a top-40 showing in Arnie’s event last fortnight in Orlando.

Though after missing the cut at TPC Sawgrass, MacIntyre has been overtaken by Canadian Corey Conners and Sergio Garcia on the Rankings.  Conners, and seventh at Sawgrass, has moved from No. 44 to 42 while Garcia, and sharing ninth last Sunday, has swapped places with the Scot.

MacIntyre will sit-out this week’s Honda Classic ahead of tee-up in next week’s WGC – Dell Match-Play Championship in Austin, Texas.

However, the good news for MacIntyre is that all seven players presently behind him on the Rankings, those ranked 45th to 51th, will not be teeing-up this week on the PGA National course at Palm Beach Gardens and meaning they cannot go past him in the Rankings.

Also, the present No. 51 ranked Gary Woodland had entered the Honda Classic but upon arrival at the course Tuesday he tested positive to the Corona virus and will now sit-out this week’s $7m event.
