Tiger Woods has been hospitalized and reported seriously injured following a bad single-car accident in L.A. County on Tuesday morning (US time) and with rescue crews needing to use the ‘jaws of life’ to free the 15-time Major winner from his vehicle.

Woods is reported to have had his legs badly injured following the crash when his Genesis Invitational  GV80 courtesy vehicle rolled down a slope.

It is understood Woods was on his way to the Rolling Hills Country Club for a second day of filming with GolfTV when the accident occured.

His long-time manager, Mark Steinberg says he sustained multiple leg injuries and is currently in surgery.

Woods’ injuries are believed to include a compound fracture and shattered ankle in one leg. He is undergoing surgery to put the pieces of his ankle back together.

Fellow Tour player and good friend, Justin Thomas said he ‘was sick to the stomach’ in learning the news and speaking ahead of this week’s Workday WGC at The Concession at Bradenton in Florida.

Thomas added:  “It hurts to see one of my closest friends get in an accident. I just hope he’s all right. Just worried for his kids.. I’m sure they’ll struggle”.

Thomas was asked if he would consider withdrawing from this week’s event but given the story was then only ‘breaking’ the current World No. 3 said it was far too early to consider such a decision and expressed his concern more for Woods current condition.

Local L A police reported:  “On February 23, 2021, at approximately 7:12 AM, LASD responded to a single vehicle roll-over traffic collision on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes.

“The vehicle was traveling northbound on Hawthorne Boulevard, at Blackhorse Road, when it crashed. The vehicle sustained major damage.”

“The driver and sole occupant was identified as PGA golfer, Eldrick ‘Tiger’ Woods,” officials confirmed.

“Mr. Woods was extricated from the wreck with the ‘jaws of life’ by Los Angeles County firefighters and paramedics, then transported to a local hospital by ambulance for his injuries.”

It was unclear at this early stage what caused the accident. Local police are investigating and it’s been confirmed alcohol WAS NOT a contributing factor.

The 45-year-old Woods had been in the Santa Monica area over the weekend acting as host for his annual Genesis Invitational golf tournament at the Riviera Country Club however he was not competing given he is still recovering from a fifth back surgery.

Woods had been seen walking the course over the weekend and had been photographed with celebrities such as David Spade and Dwyane Wade.

What could have led to a single car accident over such a distance?

He has also been interviewed by host TV broadcaster CBS but stated he was uncertain if would be fit enough to tee-up in the April 8th commencing Masters.

It’s not the first time Tiger Woods has been in a high-profile car accident — he crashed his SUV in a 2009 incident at his home in Florida that eventually led to his divorce.

And then Woods was arrested in 2017 by West Palm Beach Police after he was found passed out behind the wheel of his car. Tiger said he had taken prescription medication before the accident and didn’t realize the effect the meds would have on him.
