Ferguson Full Of Praise For Dullatur Club Head Pro Following Scottish Championship.

Glaswegian Ewen Ferguson finished the leading Scot and securing his third top-20 result in his 12 events since the lifting of the ‘lockdown’ following the hosting of the inaugural Scottish Championship at the Fairmont Resort of the outskirts of St. Andrews

Ferguson, 24 grabbed a seventh hole eagle ‘2’ along with five birdies, including a gem at the last, but also a fourth hole double-bogey in his closing score of 67 for an 11-under par total and a share of 16th place.

And afterwards the young Scot was full of praise for the work with coach, Gregor Monks, the head pro at the Dullatur club at Craigmarloch to the north east of Glasgow.

Ferguson said: “It was a good birdie on the last. I’ve not played the last hole great in the last few tournaments, so I took three wood off the last tee and just tried to get it in position, get it in position again, and almost play it the smart way rather than trying to overpower it and make a mistake.

Scottish golfer Ewen Ferguson secures a third top-20 since the lifting of the lockdown at the Scottish Championship.

“I was quite happy that things I worked on with my coach at home paid off.

“Knowing that it wasn’t great with the driver today, so I thought ‘get it in position and change things up’. It’s hard to do in the head when you’re in the heat of battle, so I did that and it paid off with a birdie, delighted.

“I knew I could play and I’ve done it before, so that wasn’t really in question, it was just breaking down the barrier of doing it once, getting some confidence and starting to feel a bit more comfortable playing with good players.

“I played the last round with Sam (Horsfield), who has won twice so meeting these people and thinking I feel more comfortable in their surroundings. I have lots of pals like Bob (Macintyre) and Conor (Syme) who seem to be doing it every week, so it’s nice to join in that party a little bit.”

However, it’s a week off now for Ferguson and electing not to head to Brescia for the Italian Open.

He said: “I’m taking next week off, bubble life is a little bit harder than normal life with this past week just golf and staying in the hotel.

“I say that to my mum and dad and they are like ‘that’s what you do every week’ but it’s not, because usually you could go to Nandos or do something that makes life go a bit quicker.

“So, four weeks in a row would be a bit much for me. The plan now is two weeks in Cyprus next, but next week just practice and try to get better again”.
