Who Was Longest At Winged Foot? No, Not Bryson & Not ‘DJ’ Nor Wolff Or Rory But A Fox.

So, after all the talk of Bryson DeChambeau bringing Winged Foot to its knees, who then officially was the longest driver of the ball in last week’s U.S. Open?

If not golf’s ‘Mad Scientist’ then perhaps World No. 1 Dustin Johnson?  What about sensationally Matthew Wolff?  Maybe it was Rory McIlroy despite sharing sixth place.

No, none of those.

The longest officially recorded drive of the four days was by New Zealander Ryan Fox.

The 33 year old Auckland-born Fox, who lost out in a play-off for the 2018 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, blasted out a longest ‘measured’ drive of 341.5 yards during the course of last week’s U.S. Open at Winged Foot.

His drive was five-and-a-half yards longer than American Davis Riley and second at 336 yards and also with the Kiwi golfer hitting the ball 37.1 yards longer than the average drive last week.

In finding that average drive you have to go all the way down the statistics to the 139th ranked Matt Kuchar and Sean Norris, who each averaged 304. 4 yards.

Fox was competing in a third U.S. Open but unfortunately for a second year running he missed the halfway cut.

For all the talk of his ‘muscle’ off the tee, DeChambeau ended last week ranked 18th in ‘Driving Distance’ with an average drive of 325.8 yards.

Wolf who was a runner-up and a distant six shots adrift of DeChambeau was fifth in ‘Driving Distance’ at 333.6 yards while Rory McIlroy also averaged longer off the tee that his now fellow U.S. Open winner to be in 13th place with an average drive of 328.5 yards for his eight ‘measured’ drives over the four days.

Here is the top-20 in ‘Driving Distance’ following the U.S. Open.
